Dr. Stohs is the Executive Vice President of Global Scientific Affairs for Boston BioPharm, Southlake, TX. He is Dean Emeritus of the School of Pharmacy and Health Professions, Creighton University Medical Center, Omaha, NE where he was involved in the development of the Doctor of Pharmacy degree as the sole professional degree (third in the nation), the nation’s first web-based Doctor of Pharmacy program, and the graduate program. Creighton University he also led the development of the nation’s first entry level Doctor of Physical Therapy program and Doctor of Occupational Therapy program. He previously was a faculty member in the College of Pharmacy at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, where he served as Professor and Department Chair of Biomedicinal Chemistry and Assistant Dean for Research, and also held an appointment as Professor in the Eppley Cancer Institute.
Dr. Stohs also was the former Senior Vice President of Research and Development for AdvoCare International, a nutrition and wellness company in Texas. He was responsible for development of over 25 new products and reformulation of over 40 products. He also had overall responsibility for product quality control/quality assurance, adverse events reporting, structure/function claims submitted to the FDA, scientific components of product training, clinical pilot studies on new and reformulated products, research studies regarding AdvoCare products, publication of research studies, and audits of manufacturing facilities.
He is a fellow of American College of Nutrition, a Certified Nutrition Specialist (CNS) Emeritus, Fellow of the Association of Schools of Allied Health Professions, Fellow of Academy of Toxicological Sciences, and Fellow of the America Pharmacists Association. He is the past President of the Board for Certification of Nutrition Specialists and serves on the Publications Committee for the Journal of the American College of Nutrition. He is the President of the Accreditation Council for Professional Nutrition Education (ACNPE). He was holder of the Gilbert F. Taffe Jr. Endowed Chair in Research at Creighton University.
He has authored more than 450 peer-reviewed articles in scientific and professional journals and presented at over 500 international, national and regional scientific and professional meetings. He directed the research of over 40 graduate students, and the research and budgets of over 60 grants and contracts. He had continuous research funding for over 40 years from Federal, foundation, state, industrial, and University sources.
He has received a number of awards including the Academy of Pharmaceutical Sciences Research Achievement Award in Pharmacodynamics; American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy Teacher of the Year Award; American College of Nutrition Industrial Recognition Award; University of Nebraska Medical Center Distinguished Pharmacy Alumni Award; Excellence in Nutrition Science Award, Emord & Associates; Excellence in Integrative Medicine Award, Emord & Associates; Sigma Xi Outstanding Scientist Award at University of Nebraska; University of Nebraska Medical Center Outstanding Teacher Award; Alumni Faculty Award for Outstanding Research; Phi Beta Delta Honor Society for International Scholars, American Pharmaceutical Association and Burlington Northern Faculty Achievement Award, University of Nebraska, and Ragus Award for the Best Research Article published in the Journal of the American College of Nutrition.
Dr. Stohs holds a PhD in Biochemistry from University of Wisconsin, BS in Pharmacy and MS in Pharmacognosy (Natural Medicinal Products) from the University of Nebraska. On sabbatical, he conducted studies and research in the Department of Forensic Medicine at Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden, and the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, Research Triangle Park, NC, in nutrition, pharmacology and toxicology.
